AME 47560: Independent Design Project - Goehler

Students are welcome to propose a 1-3 credit independent design project in the areas of mechanism design, robotics design, or biomechanics design (including prosthetics and exoskeleton systems).

This project should be pursued during the third or fourth year of the undergraduate curriculum to ensure that enough fundamental knowledge has been obtained to be successful.

Previous examples:

  • Design/building a novel subsystem/robot for the Robotic Football Club (new controller, new drive system, completely different QB/Center, etc...)
  • Designing/manufacturing a suspension system for an off-road, electric "motorcycle" (it's definitely a scooter...).
  • Design/manufacturing a testing system for a vibration-damping grip for cyclists.
  • Creating G-code to CNC mill a replica of the Golden Dome.
  • College Mentor for a FIRST Robotics team (which includes producing CAD files for the design).

Note that if multiple students want to work together on a single project, then each student will have to write their own final report at the end of the semester.
