Bring our pipetting robot back to life and study malaria epidemiology

We hoped our new pipetting robot would make our lives easier and conduct DNA extractions for us. But so far, it doesn't work. We need to tweak the script and try a number of optimization steps to extract DNA from blood samples. We will check the quality of the extracted DNA by Nanodrop and qPCR.

Do you like to work on the intersection of biology and technology? Do you have some basic skills in python coding (or are you interested to learn it)? If so, you are the perfect fit for this project. Once the robot is up and running, we have opportunities for to use it for future undergrad projects.

Name of research group, project, or lab
Koepfli Lab
Why join this research group or lab?

Research in our lab uses molecular tools to better understand the epidemiology of malaria and other infectious diseases. We constantly develop novel laboratory methods to diagnose, quantify and genotype parasites and their transmission stages, and apply them to large population-based surveys. We aim to contribute to new strategies for the control and eventual elimination of infectious diseases.
