EE/CSE: Deep Learning for Underwater Acoustic Environment Estimation

I am an assistant professor working in the fields of digital communications, signal processing, and remote sensing. One of my research projects involves localization and environment estimation from echoes in underwater acoustics, with a number of published papers in this area that utilize deep learning. I am seeking motivated undergraduate and graduate students to work with my graduate student on implementing the existing codebase on new machines here at Notre Dame and expanding the codebase's capabilities. The previous undergraduate student that I worked with at a previous institution on the same material became a co-author on a conference paper, and ideally the participating students will become co-authors themselves on new publications with their efforts in this project. This work involves coding in Python and using its deep learning utilities, and teaches skills in scientific computing and its various exotic applications.
