Mesoscale magnetic structure

Our group focuses on studies of mesoscale magnetic systems such as skyrmions in chiral magnets or superconducting vortices. The main experimental technique is small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), which is often complemented my molecular dynamics simulation.

The SANS experiments are carried out at domestic or international facilities, such as the High Flux Isotope Reactor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The molecular dynamics are run at the Center for Research computing, and are done in close-collaboration with colleagues at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where multiple students have spend extended time over the summer.

During the academic year research will be for credit. Over the summer it will be paid.

More detail and recent publications can be found on the group website listed below.

Student qualifications

Student can (and have) start doing research with our group already during their freshman year. The expectation is that students contribute at a level that merits co-authorship on scientific publications. Projects may take 1-2 years or longer, so it is beneficial to stay with the group for an extended time.
